Sorry for the delay in getting this information to you.

Initially the installation was started from the web however, the system did
suggest that i should install from within Ubuntu as the application already
existed under Ubuntu software centre.  As far as i can remember, this went
through, and I'm sure that it did actually run the software, but I'm not
sure.

Typing 'apt-cache policy bandwidthd' shows:-

Bandwidthd:
    Installed: 2.0.1
    Candidate: 2.0.1+CVS20090917-3
    Version Table:

          500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/universe packages
