So the discussion are dating back to the compatibility of broken
applications, but this bug is not relevant. ;-)

If you want to say "I give it a reason to change the fonts for it's
better in look and feel", but your ideas behind is "it will fix the
breakages and I do not care the look and feel that much", then you
misunderstood the problem.

Please point out real life applications which does not work with the
fontconfig settings? If there are many then we should change fontconfig
now; if there are only a small number of applications affected, then
just go and fix them.

To be a bit informal , I'm curious why you pay so much time arguing
about changing the fonts for you cannot read PDFs (please, don't say
there are others if you cannot point out many other _live_ examples),
you can just fix poppler(-data) and all the people are satisfied. The
time you have spent on arguing might be already enough for fixing it.
