I gave #28 a shot, it works for me too. @RossH: You might have left out #!/bin/sh at the top of /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default, I copied /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default.sample to /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default and appended the killall command.
