I'm sorry but i still believe this should be default behavior. Most users don't know when they create .desktop files or launchers and just expect things to "Just Work". I know perhaps this is a lot of work but it should be the default action when the .desktop file launches a folder. Either this or when copying home from the places menu should active the nautilus gconf string to show home folder on desktop. The best option is to make even launchers of folders copyable to.
