I have the same hardware on my laptop, with Ubuntu 10.10 installed.
Weeks before I could not make my mic working, but the speaker and headphone
work well.
And I had no luck with the latest alsa in the PPA.

Once I thought this should be a bug in pulseaudio, because I found I can record
through the command arecord
But the problem still existed after upgrading pulseaudio...After that even
arecord could not work (maybe because of some packages upgraded during that
period, probably kernel image)

Recently I built the 2.6.38 kernel for other reasons, I found my mic
magically works! There seems still some problem with speaker/headphone
auto switching, but at least this van be controlled in the 'sound
preferrence' from the panel applet.

I would like to provide more info if needed.
