I hit this on a box I built myself.  The same media has worked on two
other systems so I trust it.  I tried using it a few different times and
tried to add a boot parameter of "all_generic_ide" at the suggestion
from a Linux Mint bug I found by Google'ing for the text.  Only got
around it by installing from a USB stick.

Intel P67 chipset (SandyBridge) using an Intel 3GB SATA port, not one of
the 3rd party ports or 6GB SATA ports, for an "HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GGC-H20L
ATA Device".  Combo HDDVD/Blu-ray drive.  BIOS is set to AHCI for SATA
ports.  CD-R disc.

Tried booting as AHCI and UEFI to the drive in my BIOS.  No difference.
