At least once every session, I'm forced to restart gdm (once had to
reboot my machine as gdm had also crashed). I switch to another TTY and
back to my X session to find that I have a movable cursor, but otherwise
a black screen with white bars spaced along the bottom. I find the
following line in my dmesg every time this happens:
