Some more info:

I've managed to get Krita to start correctly by going to "Applications and
System Nitrifications">"Manage Notifications">"Tab:Player Settings" and setting
"No audio output". This allows Krita to start once but if I exit and start the
application again the screen (not the mouse) stalls again. I noticed that
Knotify is usually (not always) using 100% CPU when this happens. If I disable
all the Application sounds under "KDE Workspace" (use "Use the KDE sound
system" selected) then Krita will also start one time. I have not narrowed down
which sounds have this affect but having the following on causes Krita to fail
everytime:
* Logout
* Information Message
* Catastrophe
* Warning
* Crital Message
* Warning message
* Notification
* Fatal Error

Kdevelop also started with the notification sounds turned off but on
exit the interface stalled again. During this Knotify and kded4 were
fighting for complete control of the CPU.
