Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dmraid

Since Ubuntu 9.10 (I think but not shure) I couldn't install ubuntu due
it didn't detected my HDD. After searching for a bug I've found that my
device was detected as a mounted dmraid device when I have never
configured a raid array. After playing with dmraid I've found I could
delete the array by typing "sudo dmraid -E -r /dev/whatever_device". I
could find some info in the following ubuntu forum thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1325650 . I can provide any
information you ask for so if you need it just post it here and I will
reply. Thanks for your support.
