I also experience this problem with 10.04.2 I seem to solve it much simpler than creating custom startup scripts.. I simply added "nfs" to /etc/modules and now my servers don't get stuck on mounting nfs shares. Seems like something happened in kernel/modules config that it no longer auto-loads nfs module..
