I believe you can press F6 in the CD menu and edit the kernel boot line.
In addition to "splash" and "quiet", please also remove the new
"vt.handoff=7" option.

If you still get only a black screen, you can disable the normal driver
and fall back to the vesa driver by giving a bogus option to the driver.
For radeon cards, use for instance "radeon.nonsense=1".
