I notice there is a difference in vertical refresh rates: nouveau: 1366x768@60 = broken/corrupt nvidia: 1366x768@50 = working
In fact, when using nvidia it doesn't let you go above 50Hz, suggesting the 60Hz used by nouveau is partly to blame. Though I know a mode setting is made up of several variables, so doubt the problem is just the vertical refresh rate.
