Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

After clicking the Ubuntu button (or pressing Super key), the dash
window appears, but I can not activate the first row icons (mouse
clicks, Enter or Space keys have no effect). Typing text into search box
shows no results. I could not find an easy way to start new applications
and I had to rely on command line (this I do not mind :-) Session error
log shows

** (<unknown>:1636): WARNING **: void
PlacesView::PlaceEntryActivateRequest(const char*, guint, const char*):
Unable to find entry:
/com/canonical/unity/applicationsplace/applications for request: 0

which I suspect may be connected to the problem.
