Perhaps a better solution would be to disable the "trigger" on the first 50pixels (or whatever) of the left edge when a window is maximized. This way the launcher would never be triggered when a user was actually aiming for the left most toolbar button in a maximized window.
I don't believe we need a visual indicator when the launcher is hidden, that seems to defeat the purpose and adds ugly screen clutter.
