The navigation pane is unnecessary, wasteful, and ugly. All of its features can be implemented via other means. For Current Activity there could be a panel that appears at the bottom or the top when stuff is going on with a progressbar for overall progress and a button to expand the view. History and 3rd party repositories can have buttons in the main view. The button for 3rd party repositories will bring up a list of repositories that are displayed in a similar fashion to sub-categories of packages.
In any case, the reasons for the criticism are valid and there are available solutions that solve all of the issues raised in opposition in a more elegant manner. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445380 Title: Sidebar on the left wastes a lot of screenspace -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
