Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity-2d
If unity-2d-panel is started while Compiz is running, indicators do not appear. Instead, a window titled "<unknown>" appears and vanishes quickly. That window either 1. is the height of the panel and contains the panel background 2. is maybe 100-200 pixels high and contains the panel background several times, tiled. It has a width of also about 100-200 pixels. I didn't manage to capture a screenshot yet, unfortunately. The single legacy system tray icon is broken as well, it appears on the far left of the panel, on top of the Ubuntu button. The icon works, though sometimes the icon itself doesn't display correctly. This does seem related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity- 2d/+bug/718512 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/703542, but I think it's a different issue since it appears to be inherently linked to Compiz. If the panel is launched while Metacity or no window manager is running, it works. Similarly, if the panel is running and Compiz is launched, it keeps working. If the panel is then killed and restarted, it doesn't work anymore. I've tried the workaround described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/703542/comments/11, but it didn't change a thing.
