no luck Phillip :-)

my laptop is a centrino dothan platform and lspci reports my card reader
as

 Generic system peripheral [0805]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822
SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 17)

$ dmesg | grep -i sdhc
[ 20.616000] sdhci: Secure Digital Host Controller Interface driver
[   20.616000] sdhci: Copyright(c) Pierre Ossman
[ 20.616000] sdhci: SDHCI controller found at 0000:03:01.2 [1180:0822] (rev
17)
[   20.616000] mmc0: SDHCI at 0xfbffb400 irq 21 DMA

$ lsmod | grep -i sdhc
sdhci                  18700  0
mmc_core               26756  2 mmc_block,sdhci

and udev detect the insertion of SD cards very well !

the only problem I have is that the card reader does not work after
suspend (reported as bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107603 ).

tell me if you need anything more.

Olivier
