Just given it a test run and so far I have not experienced the issue so far. I open several QT/KDE apps and did not hang the desktop (I did experience a few unrelated visual bugs though E.g. dock area would not update when dock slide out). I'm gonna risk doing some actual work and will report back on how it goes.
