Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz
After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04 the internal speaker started giving me alert tones. I tracked it down to compiz consuming all available CPU time and not releasing it or subsiding. Compiz runs properly as long as it has not been suspended.
