I was able to capture the screen, having the sidebar frozen... notice in
the picture that the mouse is away (to the right side of the screen) and
it is still opened... also, that I have nautilus running (maximized) and
it show no triangle by its home icon... the bar simply wont go away (and
usually there is no way to keep it from hiding)

I had to remotely access (ssh) this box to get proper control over my
system, since compiz --replace and unity --replace hadn`t accomplished
anything close to what I had expected (paining my screen totally white
was not my goal), and the reboot was mandatory

Are there any log files I can try to post here to describe better my
huge frustration with unity keeping me from actually using the system as
disired? I doubt anyone moms (mine included) be able to understand the
mess that Unity does to the usability ! Wasn`t it created for tiny
screen (like netbooks)? What is the advantage of forcing this on the
users even when they huge huge screens? The math does not seem to add!
