I agree that the first attempt to upgrade was a network issue... I'm not so sure about the second one. The window became completely unresponsive.. and no applications (like GNOME Calculator or Terminal) would start up. I would get the "Starting Terminal..." notification, but then it would go away after 5 seconds.
I ended up rebooting and trying again, and I had the same issue with the update manager. Fortunately I could open applications again... :) Do you want me to run a console command and capture some output for you?
