Further to my last (and I say this in a particularly shame-faced manner) - my problem with the camera stopping working after the upgrade to Natty, actually had *nothing* to do with Ubuntu.
Seems that during the upgrade, the camera became switched off! Having gone all around the proverbial houses, I found that simply pressing FN+F10keys fixed it! My machine is a Novatech X16Pro. I post this hoping it may help others.
