This bug is still a problem. What seems to happen is: 1. I log in as a KDE user I haven't used in a while, perhaps since some upgrades have happened. 2. The splash screen freezes, sometimes at the second icon focusing, sometimes after all the icons have focused. 3. Even though the splash screen is frozen and covering everything, the rest of KDE continues to load! I can switch to another VT and look at the process list and see that everything is loaded, including Plasma, KWin, and even apps from my saved session like Chrome.
To fix it I have to kill the entire KDE session and log in again, and then it may work. But this is not a valid solution, because it requires killing the session, which kills all apps that are running in the session, which may cause data loss! It's clear to me that there is simply a bug in the splash screen code. At the very least it should make sure the splash screen code hasn't frozen, and it should kill it if it has. It's simply absurd that a frozen splash screen obscures a running desktop with no way to kill the splash screen but to kill the entire session. ** Changed in: kde4libs (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kde4libs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197879 Title: kde4 crashes on splash screen -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
