Sorry to post so many comments in quick succession, but this bug is
related to screen blanking, i.e. closing the laptop lid or turning the
display off after a certain period of time. I can reproduce the bug by
closing and opening the laptop lid. It does no occur when using the
Ubuntu Classic desktop.
