Public bug reported: In previous Ubuntu releases I was able to have any kind of graphical or commandline environment without installing GDM, KDM, LXDM, SLiM, or any other graphical login manager. In Natty however it will not boot without one. I noticed this problem after upgrading a machine and it refusing to boot, only finally booting after I entered recovery mode (which allowed me to login as I had previously, strangely) and installing GDM in this case.
What happens instead of a login prompt is simply a flashing cursor that comes up after Ubuntu plymouth animation. I've checked this on numerous machines, including in VIrtualBox OSE and it's the same result. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: natty ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775279 Title: Natty will not load without a a graphical login manager -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
