Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity
I downloaded Eclipse 3.6.2 in ~/eclipse and I launched ~/eclipse/eclipse using the File Manager. I right-clicked on the Launcher icon and selected Keep In Launcher. Then I exited Eclipse, and launched it again using the Launcher shortcut. To my surprise, the packaged Eclipse (version 3.5.2) was launched. Clarifications: I have Ubuntu's packaged version installed because it's an easy way to get all the dependencies. I don't use it because it's old. This bug is about the Launcher icon pointing to the wrong binary, not about updating Eclipse. Workaround: I can get correct behavior through a cumbersome process. I created a menu entry for Eclipse 3.6.2, I used it to launch Eclipse, and I right-clicked on the Launcher icon and selected "Keep In Launcher". That results in a proper shortcut.
