Public bug reported: After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04, I was running into issues where if I would open files with Chromium (downloads) or just gnome-open, no matter what the file type was. A window would pop up stating that xpdf was not found (I had removed it, but prior to removing it, it was actually trying to open files with xpdf). After looking at what gnome- open was doing, I removed xfce4 and then the problem was resolved.
The logs attached are after the xfce4 package was removed, but I had reinstalled it and emultated the initial effects by choosing xpdf as the default application to open files. Why it ever picked xpdf is beyond me as it was working fine in 10.10 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xfce4 (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.39-0.5~20110427-generic 2.6.39-rc5 Uname: Linux 2.6.39-0-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue May 3 00:07:37 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xfce4 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-04-29 (3 days ago) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 natty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775947 Title: xfce4 tries using wrong app no matter what mime type -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
