Ok. So the ppa is there, but the patched kernel is not. I do see in
the screenshot that the patched gnome-power-manager is already
installed. You need the other packages that look like that:

In synaptic from where you made the screenshot:
install "linux" - I am not sure, but perhaps it will already pull in
with it what we need
check further down the list, you should be able to see: (look at
columns "Package" and "Installed Version")
linux-image-2.6.39-9-generic ...+kamal~mjgbacklight...
and something similar with:
linux-headers...
linux-headers...-generic
they all need to be installed.

The patched 2.6.39-9 should now be selectable in grub.
