Does this still happen for you within newer releases? Potential with a
release of lucid or newer?

Also please be notified that launchpad is the bug tracker for Ubuntu,
not for Debian. If you want to report issues with the packages in
Debian, please do that on bugs.debian.org, e.g. through using the
"reportbug" utility.

Stating that, given that the nickcolor script seems to cause you trouble
I would suggest you to contact the script author (should be visible
within the script source) for support.
