Public bug reported:

ALSA on an IBM T21 sees a lot of audio corruption, roughly every 30 to
60 seconds where only static is heard. The terminal shows this error
being reported over and over again. ALSA-OSS doesn't mitigate this at
all (aoss vlc)

[00000348] alsa audio output error: write failed (broken pipe)

After a 5 second or so period of static, the sound recovers. This cycle
repeats over and over.
