i tried some stuff again, and it seems that what fixed the problem was not the different kernel but the nvidia driver i installed. right now it seems the bug is related to Nouveau driver or to unity of both. the weird thing though is that the bug repeated itself also after i stopped the x with 'service gdm stop'.
