It seems as though the USB connection is cut for a short time and that makes the audio "crack". My USB DAC starts to blink the connection LED when the problem occurs. The connection LED stays on, when everything is OK.
I do use a wireless USB mouse and keyboard, but have done so before upgrading to 11.04.
