Ok no one replied to this so I tried the upgrade to full 11.04, it half worked apart from most hardware drivers were not working at all.. * graphics went into some kind of basic backup default setting * no sound several other things I cant remember right now
So i ended up doing a full fresh install on the existing partition overwriting the current installation.
