I have encountered the same problem.

When I run /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 from a terminal,
the following message appeared:

Please contact your system administrator to resolve the follwing problem:
Could not open or create the file "(null)"; this indicates that there may be a
problem with your configuration, as many programs will need to create files in
your home directory. The error was "Failed to create file
'/tmp/gconf-test-locking-file-X6BCVV': Permission denied" (errno = 13).
Can't remove file (null): Bad address

Does anyone have an idea to deal with this problem?
