I just tried to reproduce this crash and its stil there with up to date kubuntu 11.04, strange thing is that now vlc doesn't crash every time when trying to open external subtitles. I opened same video several times (each time tried to open subs also) and it crashed in first and second attempt, but on next try it doesn't crash. This crashes seem to be random. I launched 'valgrind vlc' three times and vlc doen't crash at all under valgrind. I'm attaching valgrind logs, maybe it still would be usefull somehow.
