I deleted this file: /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical .com_ubuntu_dists_natty_partner_i18n_Translation-en
because it had gotten corrupt on my machine. Then I ran apt-get update again and things went fine. But I don't know if that file was important or what it contained...so delete with caution.
