Uri: There are essentially three sets of "supported" nvidia drivers provided by NVIDIA (see http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/README/appendix-a.html ). In Feisty nvidia-glx-legacy corresponds to the 71xx series of drivers, nvidia-glx corresponds 96xx series and nvidia-glx-new the 97xx series.
NVIDiA brands all cards not supported by the 97xx as legacy thus causing large amounts of confusion all round. NVIDIA cards being used in laptops may need extra configuration to work correctly: http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/README/appendix-i.html This is compounded by the fact that Feisty no longer hard codes monitor ranges into xorg.conf and the nvidia binary driver seems to be weak at correctly probing supported resolutions (see bugs like Bug #91292 (so the nvidia-glx driver probably works but needs help finding the right resolutions). ** Summary changed: - Dell Inspiron 8200 freezes after ~5 mins of work + [nvidia-glx-legacy] Dell Inspiron 8200 freezes after ~5 mins of work -- [nvidia-glx-legacy] Dell Inspiron 8200 freezes after ~5 mins of work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
