When the "Use Primary" option is enabled, every text portion that is being selected, is being introduced into the history. That means that even if you select a white space, or a single letter, it will get put in the history. If you do not want this behaviour and only want items specifically copied (with ctrl+c, etc) in the history, you should turn off "Use Primary".
