In comments #5 and #10 Kyle brought our attention to that ibus does not easily start automagically based on the selected language. That's the issue the branch you mention aims to address. You may still be right when saying that there is nothing wrong with im-switch. When Colin Watson sponsored my proposal, we agreed to consider the change to be a temporary workaround.
