Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cups
We have some PDF files that jam the print queue on cups 1.4.6 (natty). Identical print job is quickly printed on the same printer if it is printed over a cups 1.4.4 (maverick). ps shows a process pstopdf (poppler-utils) that runs infinite with 100% cpu usage. Changing the printer URL to use ipp: instead of lp: does not change anything. The spool file looks ok to me: i can open it in adobe reader. Cups log files do not show a single error line, even in debug mode. I also cannot convert the spool file manually to PostScript by pdf2ps (ghostscript), it also hangs forever. Printer is a PostScript capable device. So by upgrading from MAverick to Natty, the print server gets unusable. I will roll back to Maverick for production use for now, but that does not mean that i don't care about that issue. The PDF i use was originally generated with OpenOffice3.1 and recreating it with LibreOffice3.2 does not change anything. I could track it down to 5 pages in the pdf. These pages contain some transparencies, this is just a hint on where the bug is. Unfortunately i have no idea how to further debug. Help appreciated. cups: Installed: 1.4.6-5ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.4.6-5ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.4.6-5ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: cups (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788642 Title: pdf print job hangs abd blocks the queue -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
