Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
Could be user malfunction - or could be an issue - had installed from download, had no desktop interface - tried to install several packages and finally got something working for a gui / desktop, but some packages apparently were not happy. Does the 64-bit installer do a hardware check to make sure the platform to be installed on meets requirements? Not sure if this system is 64-bit capable. 11.04 64-bit cut/downloaded 04-26-2011 ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: x11-common 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-server 2.6.38.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-server x86_64 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz DRM.card0.VGA.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1280x1024 1280x1024 1024x768 1024x768 1024x768 832x624 800x600 800x600 800x600 800x600 640x480 640x480 640x480 640x480 720x400 edid-base64: AP///////wAEchKtAAAAACwPAQMIIht46ASlo1hPlSQZUFS/7wABAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBMCoAmFEAKkAwcBMAUg4RAAAeAAAA/QA3Sx5TDgAKICAgICAgAAAA/wA1NDMwMEJFMVBZMjUKAAAA/ABBTDE3MTEKICAgICAgACU= Date: Sat May 28 13:42:25 2011 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu DpkgTerminalLog: Unpacking x11-common (from .../x11-common_7.6+4ubuntu3_all.deb) ... debconf: DbDriver "config": /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another process: Resource temporarily unavailable dpkg: error processing /media/cdrom//pool/main/x/xorg/x11-common_7.6+4ubuntu3_all.deb (--unpack): subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 ErrorMessage: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2582] (rev 0e) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology GA-8I915ME-G Mainboard [1458:2582] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 11.04 "Natty Narwhal" - Release amd64 (20110426) Lsusb: Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub PackageArchitecture: all ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-server root=/dev/mapper/hostname-root ro quiet Renderer: Unknown SourcePackage: xorg Title: package x11-common 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 03/30/2006 dmi.bios.vendor: Award Software International, Inc. dmi.bios.version: F2 dmi.board.name: 8I915ME dmi.board.vendor: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. dmi.board.version: x.x dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAwardSoftwareInternational,Inc.:bvrF2:bd03/30/2006:svn:pn:pvr:rvnGigabyteTechnologyCo.,Ltd.:rn8I915ME:rvrx.x:cvn:ct3:cvr: version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110415-0ubuntu2 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.23-1ubuntu6 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg: xserver-xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-package compiz-0.9 natty regression-update ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/789654 Title: package x11-common 1:7.6 4ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
