This is still a problem on 11.04 with MacPro1,1. The eject overlay is shown, so Ubuntu detects the key just fine, but the tray does not eject.
I can work around the problem by typing 'eject' from the command-line, which works just fine. I don't see why Ubuntu shouldn't just execute the 'eject' utility when the key is pressed?
