Comment #15 is addressed to the upstream developers of HPLIP. Where you could be of help is finding out whether HPLIP got broken by the packaging or whether the problem comes from upstream. You could run a live CD of Oneiric or rebuild the Oneiric package of HPLIP 3.11.5 on Natty to find out whether you can correctly print with it.
