** Description changed: After the grub boot menu time-out my system often locks up with a variety of messages or just a blank screen. Sometimes boot up is successful, and the system is reasonably stable, but there are some signs of instability such as occasional lock-ups. I've lived with the problem for several ubuntu releases. I've changed the disk but the problem persists. dmesg reports: [ 3711.960540] ata3.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 [ 3711.960546] ata3.00: BMDMA stat 0x26 [ 3711.960550] ata3.00: failed command: READ DMA EXT [ 3711.960558] ata3.00: cmd 25/00:a0:f8:a2:12/00:00:b6:00:00/e0 tag 0 dma 81920 in [ 3711.960559] res 51/84:2f:f8:a2:12/84:00:b6:00:00/e0 Emask 0x30 (host bus error) [ 3711.960563] ata3.00: status: { DRDY ERR } [ 3711.960565] ata3.00: error: { ICRC ABRT } [ 3711.960576] ata3: soft resetting link [ 3712.160930] ata3.00: configured for UDMA/33 [ 3712.160949] ata3: EH complete [ 4007.818433] ACPI Warning: Incorrect checksum in table [OEMB] - 0x18, should be 0x17 (20110112/tbutils-314) [ 4007.818608] ACPI Warning: Incorrect checksum in table [OEMB] - 0x18, should be 0x17 (20110112/tbutils-314) + + Note: The ACPI Warnings don't usually occur - just a one off.
