I can confirm also powernowd is the culprit for a Gigabyte GA-K8NSXNP motherboard, AMD 64 3200+/2.2GHz. I think I disabled it when I installed Dapper, and haven't had a problem since, but would like to reduce power consumption. It was a bastard initially troubleshooting., had to disabled lots of stuff until I found powernowd. If you want to actually do something about it, I'm happy to build kernels & test, I think it freezes when powernowd asks the kernel to change the processor speed.
