Hi Stefan, we experienced the kernel lockups under heavy load on Ubuntu 10.04 running the standard 2.6.32-314-ec2 kernel from the ami-3202f25b (us- east-1). The underlying hardware is a Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5507 @ 2.27GHz w/ 4MB cache.
I have installed the linux- image-2.6.32-317-ec2_2.6.32-317.31~preview2_amd64 from .deb and now the lockups are gone.
