Public bug reported:
Downloaded an installation/live-cd (xubuntu 11.04 this time). Checked
the iso image md5sum, etc.
Note (because the question was asked): this is on a CD-RW drive, not a
DVD. The status replies which the drive sends back to the driver
indicate it supports "TAO SAO" modes, but not "RAW." I mention that
because ISTR that I had to burn in RAW mode in the past, when I used a
Windows program to do the burn or it would not work.
I have repeated the downloads, checked them, etc.
Tried to burn using wodim -- that has been most successful means of
burning a bootable CD. No matter what combination of options I've
thought of, the resultant CD boots successfully; however, when I select
either Install ..., or Try Without Installing, the load-up fails with a
complaint about being unable to access "filesystem.squashfs" The same
result occurs if I try the "Check disk" option in the install program.
How humiliating! To create a good install disk, I need to use my
stepdaughter's Windows(tm) machine.
It's quite possible this is a configuration problem, but I have no idea
what more to try.
