After restarting and relogging in, miraculously (without doing
anything), the icon/right click menu came back. I also noticed that
while I logged on to GNOME, the word Nautilus floated for several
seconds.

But strange things keep coming up. Window borders were gone. I can't
move them. Clicking `Show desktop' can't function, together with an
error (see error1.png).  Checking `Preference' --> `Windows', I got this
message (error2.png). The window list can't list out working windows.

I don't know what went wrong here. Perhaps it might have to do with my
not closing all active windows before switching to another OS (Mac OS X)
and downloading games which are not supported by Ubuntu and can't
launch. Those games can't launch for me to play. So I don't know if
the system kept running when I rebooted.

I use Mac IBook G4 running PPC. I'm a novice to Ubuntu and Linux and
wish to know more.

By the way, is there some restoration programme for novice who might
have got stuck somewhere in Ubuntu?
