Daniel,

Please make sure your settings are correct for the connection: for
instance, make sure MPPE is enabled if it's enabled on the server, and
that compression is not enabled if it's not enabled on the server. Since
you mention that it's working properly in a virtual machine, you may
want to compare the settings between the two to make sure there isn't
something extra enabled in the PPTP connection on the machine.

Also note, you will very likely not be able to use a connection on the
local machine and a connection on a virtual machine (if both are on the
same system) at the same time -- that's due to how VPNs work with a
virtual machine if it's in NAT mode.
