On your suggestion, I was looking for these .pto and .pto.mk files. It turns out you have to save the project to get them. Once I found them, I believe the trouble is that I have a path with a "'" in it (single quote -- apostrophe in my case). The makefile that is generated doesn't seem to account for paths with single quotes in them, and I believe that's what is wrong.
Confirmed: I just removed the ' from the pathname and now it's running. Second step would be to see if escaping the single quotes inside path names works in the makefile. Thanks for the hint, Yuv. I won't be resubmitting, but I hope you/your team will follow up on this. So far, this program is a delight to work with and does some great things that no other stitching software I've seen is able to do!
